A Gift to Honor a Special Person

When someone we love passes away, we often send flowers to mark our remembrance of the person’s life. But if you wish to craft a truly lasting tribute, consider a memorial gift, which will honor your loved one and support our service members and their families.

How to set up a memorial gift. You can create a memorial by making a donation today to the VFW or by leaving us a gift through your will or living trust. Grants and scholarships to deserving individuals can be awarded in memory of a friend, loved one or fellow veteran. You also have the option of establishing an endowment that lets us honor a special person forever.

How to fund the gift. You can fund a memorial with a variety of assets, such as appreciated stock or cash. Or you can leave a percentage of your estate. Lifetime gifts usually qualify for a reduction in your income taxes.

How your gift can be recognized. The honoree might be listed in a report or program, or the name could be inscribed on a plaque. For a larger gift, the name might be placed on a room, auditorium or even a building.

How to get started. If you are looking for ideas on how to create the perfect memorial, please contact the VFW Planned Giving Office at plannedgiving@vfw.org or 816.968.1119. We will be glad to help you compose the language of your memorial gift and find the best way to honor your loved one and help veterans in need.
